WRITING DANCE – A FREE WORKSHOP HOSTED BY [nueBOX] AND FOUR CHAMBERS PRESS
Are you a creative writer looking for a new subject? Dance writer looking for ways to improve your articles or reviews with literary techniques? Generally interested and/or curious? Join [nueBOX] and Four Chambers Press for a free workshop on Tuesday, March 6 at Valley Bar in the Music Hall from 6-8 pm exploring non-traditional approaches to writing dance. Beginning with a brief introduction to the basic concepts, vocabulary, and approaches to dance, participants will explore the act of ekphrasis—writing about art—by:
- reading, analyzing, and discussing sample work from local authors
- engaging in a series of free-writing exercises and warm-ups
- responding to a live performance by dancer Allyson Yoder
- comparing notes, sharing work, and providing critique in a miniature workshop
While this workshop is designed for practicing writers, individuals of all background and levels of experience are welcome to attend. Ample time will be provided for Q&A. The workshop will be led by [nueBOX] Artist Support and Development Director Allyson Yoder and Four Chambers Founder Jake Friedman. This workshop is open to the public and free.
