ABOUT ABOUT

Have you ever worked with live musicians in a studio? Was it fun? scary?

Or, you would love to work with live musicians but never had a chance?

Most dancers/choreographers already got their rhythms and music with their movement. Yet, sometimes, it is not easy to intepret what they imagine into another form of language as they collaborate with musicians.

For this 1 hour class, Jisun (piano) and Austen (percussion) will lead dancers to learn how to communicate with live musicians. After a short introduction, all participants will have the opportunity to try out their combos with the musicians. This class is for dancers/choreographers of any style who want to hone their communication skills with musicians.

Saturday December 17th, 2-3pm (10 spots available)

$10 cash at the door

show-up/walk-in is still welcome but RSVPed ones get the priority.

Musician bio:

Jisun Myung is a theater/performance artist and musician. She has been playing for dance classes (ballet, contemporary ballet, modern, authentic jazz) at ASU since 2019 and for spontaneous theater group TAÏS. She loves incorporating pop songs, Disney, or children's nursery rhyme to classical music style.

Austen Mack is a musician and composer specializing in dance accompaniment. Since 2010, he has provided live and recorded music for university-level classes, festivals, and choreographic works, and has enjoyed the opportunity to work with artists such as Kyle Abraham, Jesse Zaritt, Pamela Pietro, and members of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and Bill T. Jones Company. As an accompanist at ASU, Austen has helped many dancers deepen their musical perception and rhythmic intuition by offering practical tools to identify and communicate the musical needs of their choreography.
